BAFTA BREAKTHROUGH BRITS 2017

MAHALIA BELO

Mahalia Belo graduated from NFTS with short film VOLUME that premiered at Sundance Film Festival and went on to win the BIFA for Best Short. Mahalia was subsequently featured as one of Screen‘s ‘Stars of Tomorrow. She followed this with ELLEN, a single film for Channel 4 made through the ‘Coming Up’ scheme for which she won the BAFTA Cymru Award for Best Feature/Television Film and BAFTA Craft Award for Best Breakthrough. Mahalia is currently in post-production on REQUIEM, an original psychological horror for BBC1 and Netflix that she directed all 6 episodes of.

KIT FRASER

Kit Fraser began his career as a camera assistant and studied at Westminster Film School where he specialised in Cinematography.Shortly after graduating in 2005 he began working as Director of Photography and was featured as a “Rising Star” by Kodak and noted as “One to Watch” by the British Society of Cinematographers. Kit shot Babak Anvari’s UNDER THE SHADOW, which won this years’ BAFTA for “Outstanding British Debut”, and the feature POSSUM for Matt Holness, which is set for release later this year. He has just completed principal photography on the eagerly anticipated FARMING for debut director Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Kit’s TV credits include Luke Hyam’s DUBPLATE and 2nd Unit on SPOOKS (series 9) directed by Paul Whittington.

He has forged a highly successful career in commercials, shooting numerous spots for GUCCI, CHRISTIAN DIOR, LANCOME, NIKE, SAMSUNG and MERCEDES, along with many music promos including ADELE and SAM SMITH.

JOSH O’CONNOR

Josh was named one of the 2016 Screen International Stars of Tomorrow and can currently be seen playing the lead in Francis Lee’s feature debut, GOD’S OWN COUNTRY, which was named Best International Film at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Josh made his feature debut in 2014 playing the role of ‘Ed‘ in Lone Scherfig’s film, THE RIOT CLUB. Since then he has enjoyed working with Stephen Frears on two occasions, both in THE PROGRAM, and in FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS. He starred in Edinburgh Film Festival winner HIDE AND SEEK, and also opposite Hannah Murray in Jeppe Ronde’s 2015 Festival favourite BRIDGEND. He is well known for his performances as James in PEAKY BLINDERS, and currently, as the literary hero, Lawrence Durrell, in ITV’s hugely successful, THE DURRELLS.

SARAH QUINTRELL

Sarah’s script ELLEN was selected from thousands of entries as 2016’s ‘Coming Up’ film for Channel 4, and directed by Mahalia Belo. It went on to win the Broadcast Award for Best Single Drama 201, the BAFTA Cymru for Best Feature/Television Film 2017 and Sarah was also nominated for a BAFTA Craft Award for Best Breakthrough Talent.

Sarah has also worked with director Kath Mattock and documentary-maker Nick Holt to create crime thriller THE TRIAL: A MURDER IN THE FAMILY which aired on Channel 4 to rave reviews.  She now has projects in development with C4, Lookout Point, Objective, Company Pictures, and the director Paul Whittington.
