David Stoddart

Director

David Stoddart is a writer/director from the west coast of Scotland. In 2004 he went to study at the Arts Institute of Bournemouth where in 2007 he was selected as one of the first Trailblazers, a nationwide scheme that recognizes key emerging talents in British film. His graduation film, ‘Waiting for Exit Music’ went on to premier at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the Tribecca Film Festival in New York. In that time a short film he wrote, ‘Rock Bottom Riser’ went on to win an award at the LA Expo Film Festival.

After completing his masters in directing fiction at the National Film and Television School (NFTS) his graduation film ‘Solstice’, a drama set in the highlands of Scotland, premiered at the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival. The film was also nominated for a BAFTA New Talent Award, a BAFTA Scotland award and won best short film at The Hamptons International Film Festival. In 2010 he was selected as one of Screen International’s ‘Stars of Tomorrow’.

David was then invited by Channel 4 to direct a 30min drama as part of their new talent scheme Coming Up. It starred Russel Tovey (Being Human) and opened the series to glowing reviews. He was also commissioned by the BBC to make a documentary on one of the most successful female racing drivers, his sister, in her bid to become the first female F1 driver to race since 1974. It was broadcast on BBC 2 to over 2 million viewers and at one point was the third most watched program on iplayer, just behind Eastenders.

David is currently directing ‘Lone Star Bull‘, which Christopher Simon is producing for New Sparta Films.
