John Maybury is a painter, writer and director. In the late seventies John was shooting his first films in and around London’s punk scene – at this time he was introduced to Derek Jarman and worked on his film ‘Jubilee’ (1977), designing sets and costumes, and he was later to work on ‘Last of England’ (1977), as an editor and on ‘War Requiem’ (1988) designing and editing the war sequences.
By the early 80’s Maybury was a leading light in the British underground film and art scene, pioneering with a style that was unashamedly exotic, with influences from Jean Cocteau to Kenneth Anger.
