Julia trained as an actor at Rose Bruford College, graduating in 2018. She joined the Royal Court Writers’ Group and went on to write her debut play, PLAYFIGHT. The play won the ETPEP Award 2020, and was shortlisted for the Papatango Award, the Theatre Uncut Award and the Women’s Prize for Playwriting. It will run at Paines Plough Roundabout for Edinburgh Fringe 2024. Julia co-wrote and starred in dark historical-comedy BELLY UP which premiered at VAULT Festival 2020 and went onto sell-out, five-star run at The Turbine Theatre in 2021. Belly Up is currently in development with the RSC. Julia created GUNTER as part of the theatre company Dirty Hare. The show premiered at Edinburgh Fringe 2023; it received five star reviews, a Scotsman Fringe First and The Stage ranked Dirty Hare as one of their top five break out theatre makers. Following the fringe, Gunter was booked for an April 2024 run at the Royal Court. Julia is currently an RSC Writer on Attachment and was part of the Channel 4Screenwriters’ Course.
