Tamzin Rafn

Tamzin Rafn began her career in the industry as Personal Assistant to musicals star Darren Day on the UK tours of Great Expectation and Summer Holiday. Following that she worked at The Mob Film Company working for directors Vadim Jean and Bharat Nalluri where she got her first feature credit as an assistant on the movie One More Kiss.

Bitten by the film flea, she joined BBC Films as the assistant to producer Ruth Caleb and among the many projects produced whilst there, she worked with future Oscar winner Pawel Pawlikowski on his movie Last Resort, as well as multi-award winning TV movie Care directed by Antonia Bird. From there, Tamzin became the in-house Script Reader, devouring over 1200 during her time .

This lead to a Head of Development position at The Producers Films (credits include the Brenda Blethyn TV movie, Belonging) before moving to Big Talk Pictures where she headed up the Film Department for over five years. Whilst there she worked on such movies as Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, Attack the Block, Paul, In Fear, and TV projects such as Free Agents, The Job Lot and Chickens as a Development Exec, before a getting a producer credit on award winning indie, Sightseers. 

Whilst working at Big Talk, Tamzin wrote the movie Albatross  on Sundays ‘to see how it felt to take a mean note’. Unexpectedly, the script sold within three weeks of completion and was shooting exactly one year later. The movie starred newcomer Jessica Brown Findlay, Oscar nominees Felicity Jones and Julia Ormond, and was the first English speaking role for German star Sebastian Koch. The film gained two BIFA nominations and an Evening Standard Award nomination for Jessica Brown Findlay.

Tamzin writes a screenwriting column for website Industrial Scripts. She also made the Brit List for the UK’s best unproduced work with her script Alice in La La Land.
