Will Brooker is Professor of Film and Cultural Studies at Kingston University, London, and an internationally-recognised expert on popular culture. His controversial PhD, completed in 1999, was a cultural history of Batman: it was published as Batman Unmasked in 2000, and followed by a sequel, Hunting the Dark Knight, in 2012. His other books include studies of Blade Runner, Alice in Wonderland, and two volumes on Star Wars and its fans. His intensive and immersive research into David Bowie involved a year of living like the cultural icon, and attracted worldwide media attention: it was published as Forever Stardust in 2017, followed by Why Bowie Matters in 2019.

Brooker was also the first British editor of the prestigious Cinema Journal, and the regular film reviewer for Times Higher Education magazine.

Brooker is regularly invited to comment on popular culture, including interviews for Sky, BBC and ITV. He has written for a range of publications including Newsweek, The Atlantic, New Statesman and The Guardian, has provided consultancy for companies such as Samsung, and has given public talks around the world.
