Faryal’s writing is inspired by the multicultural tapestry of city life and campaigns for social justice. She aspires for her work to speak with a powerful and original voice that can find humour in even the darkest of places. Faryal was selected to participate in the prestigious BAFTA ELEVATE programme for writers in 2019. She is currently in the writer’s room for Tanya Saracho’s new show LOVESONG (NBC Universal/Ojala/ Starz).

Take Me Home is a story of personal transformation and political awakening. How a young mum takes on an establishment that says London does not belong to people like her. That they are too poor to claim the city as their home. Tenacious, brave and harnessing the power of social media, Dani and her friends are out to prove them wrong.

This story is inspired by Velmi's own childhood experiences of homelessness, the stories of many young mums & families living in shelters; and campaign groups like Focus E15 and the 35% campaign who are fighting against the social cleansing of London and the destruction of affordable social housing.
