Born in Milan, Italy where she trained in Theatre Set Design at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Martina was picked by MTV Europe to work in their creative team based out of London. She then directed documentaries for TV specialising in underwater filming. During this period she started training as a freediver and set her best personal records (Martina can swim to 30m underwater without fins with one breath of air). She moved into drama in 2008 with ‘A’ Mare’, a 14 minutes film set in Sicily, which premiered in competition at Sundance Film Festival and won a number of awards among the international film festival circuit. Her second drama, ‘I-Do-Air’, a short story entirely set in a swimming pool, won a BAFTA for Best Short Film. Martina is currently directing ‘Chalk’, a 20 minutes drama set in the world of competitive gymnastic, developed with Cinema Extreme and commissioned by UK Film Council and Film4.
