Mike & Steve are BAFTA-nominated, Emmy, Peabody and two-time BIFA-winning filmmakers.

Their work as writers, directors and producers began with their acclaimed debut feature documentary NEXT GOAL WINS, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and won the British Independent Film Award (BIFA) for Best Documentary. It earned them recognition as part of BAFTA’s Breakthrough program and two of Screen International’s Future Leaders.

Subsequent highlights include: the triple-BAFTA-nominated, BIFA-winning NOTES ON BLINDNESS; BIFA-nominated Roy Andersson documentary BEING A HUMAN PERSON; double Emmy-nominated THE REAL CHARLIE CHAPLIN for Showtime, and; BAFTA-nominated HOLD YOUR BREATH: THE ICE DIVE for Netflix.

Most recently, Mike & Steve produced Searchlight Pictures’ narrative remake of NEXT GOAL WINS, directed by Taika Waititi. The film premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, with Michael Fassbender appearing alongside an all-star Pasifika cast, including Rachel House, Oscar Kightley, Dave Fane, Beulah Koale, Uli Latukefu, Semu Filipo and Kaimana in the role of fa’afafine player Jaiyah Saelua.

Other scripted work includes the nuclear thriller WAR BOOK, which they executive produced for BAFTA-nominated director Tom Harper (THE AERONAUTS, WAR & PEACE) and BAFTA-winning writer Jack Thorne (THE SWIMMERS, HIS DARK MATERIALS, WONDER, ENOLA HOLMES).

In the immersive space, Mike & Steve produced seminal VR project NOTES ON BLINDNESS: INTO DARKNESS, which won the Tribeca Storyscapes Award, Sheffield Doc/Fest’s Alternate Realities award, and a Peabody award for Digital and Interactive Storytelling.

They subsequently wrote and directed immersive project ON THE MORNING YOU WAKE (TO THE END OF THE WORLD), which focused on the 2018 false ballistic missile alert in Hawai’i. The project premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, won Best XR Experience at SXSW and went on to screen at the Venice Film Festival and the London Film Festival. It has been heralded as ‘a master class in immersive storytelling’, winning the Prix Italia, the Crystal Owl for Best VR Experience at Stereopsia, and earning a PGA Innovation Award nomination.
