Alex Murdoch

Alex is a theatre maker, writer and actor. 

Recent independent projects include; Everything By My Side directed by Fernando Rubio for LIFT, Animo, Lifegame and Permission Improbable with Improbable Theatre, Around the World in 80 Days for NIE, R&D with Caroline Horton and with Angela Clerkin, an attachment at National Theatre Studio and speaking and compering Women of the World Caerdydd at Wales Millennium Centre 2014.  She is also developing Birdhouse – a project which supports independent women theatre makers. She originally trained at École Philippe Gaulier and founded acclaimed theatre company Cartoon de Salvo with whom she toured everywhere from Edinburgh to Hong Kong.  In recent years she has stepped back from the company to focus on her independent practise.

As a writer has been commissioned by National Theatre Wales, and was part of the first 26+ Writers Group cohort at Royal Court.  Last year she awarded a place on the Jerwood/Arvon scheme, mentored by award-winning writer Chris Thorpe.  She is developing a new english version of a piece by Catalan artists Sergi López and Jorge de Picó called 30/40 Livingstone.  Her play about borders and refuge Light is on a Timer (working title) is currently is under commission to the RSC.
