Andrew Rattenbury is a British screenwriter and playwright. He created the 4-part medical miniseries THE GOLDEN HOUR (Fremantle/ITV), starring Richard Armitage and featuring Jonathan Bailey, Ruth Bradley and Alfie Allen, and adapted into a single drama the Andy McNab crime thriller THE GREY MAN (Leopard Pictures/BBC), directed by Emmy nominee Declan O’Dwyer and starring Olivia Colman, David Ryan and Nitin Ganatra. He is currently developing original ideas for television with various production companies, including adapting three of the late Warren Adler’s novels for the Adler Entertainment Trust under their first-look deal with Searchlight Pictures. His episodic credits for British television include precinct dramas DOC MARTIN (Buffalo Pictures/ITV), HOTEL BABYLON (Carnival/BBC), HARLEY STREET (Carnival/ITV), TEACHERS (Tiger Aspect/C4) and TRUST (Box TV/BBC); comedy dramas ABSOLUTE POWER (BBC) and MONARCH OF THE GLEN (Ecosse/BBC); sci-fi drama PRIMEVAL (Impossible/ITV); and more than 50 episodes of continuing dramas HOLBY CITY (BBC), EASTENDERS (BBC), CASUALTY (BBC), HOLLYOAKS (Lime Pictures/C4), THE BILL (Talkback Thames/ITV) and MURDER INVESTIGATION TEAM (ITV). Episodic work for US television comprises biblical epic A.D. THE BIBLE CONTINUES (NBC) and period adventure CRUSOE (Power/NBC). Andrew’s stage adaptation of THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE, based on the hardboiled thriller by James M. Cain, transferred from Leeds Playhouse to the West End in a production directed by Lucy Bailey and starring Val Kilmer and Charlotte Emmerson. His one-person show MAYAKOVSKY: THE SLANTING RAIN debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe before transferring to the RSC Swan Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon and the John Houseman Theater Studio, Off-Broadway. Andrew is a graduate of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and pursued a successful career as a stage and screen actor before taking up screenwriting in the late 1990s.
