Beth Proud

Beth is a screenwriter and novelist from London. She worked in nursing homes for several years and trained to be a nurse, before studying English Literature with Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia. She has also been a cheerleader, a bra fitter, and a sweet factory worker. Prior to working full time as a writer, Beth worked in marketing for a social mobility charity, which helps disadvantaged young Londoners by providing training to raise their aspirations.

Current projects in development include THE EX HEX, in development with Studio Lambert, a female led horror piece about relationships in your 20s, and EMPTY SMILES, in development with Lime Pictures, an adaptation of the bestselling YA novel series THE SMALL SPACES QUARTET, by New York Times bestselling author Katherine Arden. Beth is creatively consulting on a major supernatural show for a US streamer that’s currently in post-production, and has also co-written a short film DO NOT ENTER with ALANNAH OLIVIA to film later this year.

She is developing several other original scripts for TV and film, including thrillers, action pieces, romances and more grounded dramas – all of which have strong female characters at their core. She has a passion for genre and how it can be used to explore complicated human emotions, but in ways that can be entertaining and accessible.

Beth’s short stories have been longlisted for the BRIDPORT PRIZE and shortlisted for THE BRISTOL PRIZE. And a novelist, she is writing a series of young adult fantasy novels which explore mental health, and a near-future set action thriller novel about female friendship.
