Elizabeth Mitchell

Writer

Having spent many of her undergraduate holidays in the Middle East digging, she graduated from Cambridge in archaeology and anthropology and her first ‘proper’ job was as a picture editor at Thames and Hudson fine art publishers, working on titles with authors as diverse as Anthony Julius and Nigel Spivey.

She holds dual nationality (UK-Australian), loves traveling, wild swimming and pub quizzes.

Elizabeth Mitchell has worked in the film industry for over ten years, five of which were spent in Los Angeles. She started as a runner on music videos for director Joseph Khan, before providing coverage for Intermedia, HBO Films and Kate Winslet’s Ultra Film amongst others. She worked for independent producer, former studio executive Michael Peyser, as his Head of Development and Production for three years. She was Associate Producer on Christopher Hampton’s ‘Imagining Argentina’ starring Antonio Banderas and Emma Thompson and wrote three feature length screenplays during this time (‘Fidelity’, ‘The Fig Eater’, ‘Their Wildest Dreams’).

Back in London, she worked as a film agent at Sheil Land, representing screenwriters and authors such as Peter Ackroyd and Susan Hill, and ran the Lewisham Film Initiative, a flagship film program in South London, part-time, for five years. She continues to manage the Southern Exposure Film Fund with Film London and has Executive Produced over 30 shorts, many of them award-winning.

She is an experienced script editor and “doctor”, having worked with an international portfolio of writer/director/producers including the Assamese director Jahnu Bahrua and Andrew Kurtzman (Saturday Night Live). Passionate about the international aspect of film, she has also participated on the year-long Script Factory/British Council Creative Collaboration Course with producers from Israel, Turkey and the Balkans, and was a producer on the ‘Istanbul Express’ for Nisi Masa and Istanbul Capital of Culture in October 2010.

She set up Tailormade Productions with Brek Taylor and Clare Tinsley in 2005 and wrote, co-directed and produced several shorts as well as a commissioned original screenplay ‘North Star’, a biopic of Princess Ann Mari Von Bismarc before their feature ‘Island’. ‘Island’ is based on the acclaimed novel by Jane Rogers (MR Wroe’s Virgins) and stars Natalie Press, Oscar nominee Janet McTeer and Colin “Merlin” Morgan. Soda Pictures are releasing the film in April 2011 following its World Premiere at Glasgow Film Festival in February. Traction Media (Hard Candy, Half Nelson) repped the film in the States.

She also co-wrote a comedy feature script ‘Futebol’ with Brazilian writer/director Richard Goldegwicht.

Elizabeth is currently developing a romcom based on the novel ‘My Soviet Kitchen’ called ‘My Moscow Misadventure’ with Rooks Nest to which she is also attached to direct and is hoping to shoot 2016/2017.
