Jennie has spent very many years training actors at various drama schools but principally at Rada where she was Head of Acting until leaving in 2007 to start up Standing on the Shoulders of Giants Theatre co. Her theatrical career started with Common Stock Theatre company – where she was directing and writing plays for their London tours – after being an English teacher in London comprehensive schools. She has worked at the National Theatre and directed for the stage for many years.
Her writing career began in earnest in 1999 with several plays commissioned by BBC Radio 4, and a long stint as part of a team writing for Westway, on BBC World Service.
Her stage plays include, ‘Rebels and Ranters’, and ‘John Percy’ for Common Stock, ‘Outside In’ and ‘Blood Ties’ for Rada, and ‘Pandora’ and ‘Snafu’ for Giants.
‘Pandora’ – which was Giants first production, played at The Arcola Theatre May – June ’10. It was inspired by the workshops which Jennie led with Haringey and Hackney residents exploring the myth and the contents of Pandora’s box.
‘Snafu’, Giants second project, was inspired by the oral histories of serving military personnel, veterans and their families, and is based on the myth of Odysseus. It had a successful reading at the Soho Theatre, November ’10,
‘Deptford Wives’ a screen play is in development.
