Kate graduated with an Honours Degree in Film & Television Production from the National Film School, IADT in 2012. Her graduate short BREATHE In was selected for a number of Irish and international film festivals. She then worked as a Broadcast Producer in TBWA Dublin for almost 2 years.

In 2014, she attended Berlinale Talents to develop a short called LITTLE DOLL at the Short Film Script Station. The film depicts the first same-sex crush of a young girl. The short then premiered at Berlinale 2016. For her work with LITTLE DOLL, she was included in the British Council’s fiveFilms4freedom 2016 Global List – 33 inspiring people from around the world promoting freedom, equality and LGBT rights every day.

In 2016 she was chosen to take part in the Guiding Lights, the UK’s leading mentoring scheme for filmmakers and was paired with director Alice Lowe (Prevenge, Sightseers.)

In 2017, she was funded by Screen Ireland to make CATCALLS, an irreverent Horror about a sexual predator who gets whats coming to him. The film won Best Short Film at the YDA Ireland in 2018 and has played at many festivals all over the world including BFI London Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, and Fantasia Film Festival.

In January 2019 she was included in the Irish Times list “Top 50 to Watch in 2019.”

In 2019 she was selected by Screen Ireland to take part in their inaugural POV scheme with her script You Are Not My Mother. They shot the film in November 2020 in the midst of the second wave lockdown in Ireland.

Kate’s debut feature YOU ARE NOT MY MOTHER premiered as part of the Midnight Madness strand at TIFF in September 2021. There it came runner up in the Midnight Madness People’s Choice Awards. The film also won the Jury Prize at the Festival de Gérardmer 2022. YOU ARE NOT MY MOTHER was nominated for 6 IFTAs.

Kate was nominated for the Discovery Award at the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival 2022. She was also nominated for the rising star award for the IFTA’S 2022.

Kate directed two episodes of KIN S2 for Bron Studios / Amazon, for which she won the Best Directing – TV Drama award at the 2024 IFTAs. Kate also directed the final block of THE TOURIST S2 for Two Brothers.
