MATT CHARMAN is a multi-award-winning British screenwriter, playwright, director and producer. He was nominated for an Academy and BAFTA award for his Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies (2016), directed by Stephen Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, Jesse Plemons, Amy Ryan, Alan Alda, and Noah Schnapp. His debut feature was Suite Française (2015), directed by Saul Dibb and starring Michelle Williams, Kristin-Scott Thomas and Margot Robbie, and his upcoming sci-fi feature for Netflix The Mothership (2022), directed by Matt and starring Halle Berry, Molly Parker and Omari Hardwick, will be released later this year. Television credits include the BBC series Our Zoo (2014); ITV mini-series Blackwork (2015); and Amazon single film Oasis (2017), directed by Kevin MacDonald and starring Richard Madden, Antje Traue and Anil Kapoor. Via his London-based indie Binocular Productions, Matt is currently producing his self-penned 6-part spy drama Treason (2022) for Netflix. His work for the stage includes two world premieres at London’s National Theatre: The Five Wives of Maurice Pinder (2007) and The Observer (2009); Regrets (2012), starring Ansel Elgort, at New York’s Manhattan Theatre Club; and The Machine (2013), directed by Josie Rourke, which transferred to the Park Avenue Armory, New York after opening at Manchester International Festival. His first play A Night at the Dogs (2004) won the Verity Bargate Award.
