Matthew McDevitt is a Derry based writer and recipient of the Element Pictures NI Writer’s award which saw him commissioned to write two episodes of his comedy drama The Seeker. His crime drama Yellowback is currently in development with Deadpan Pictures. Matt recently led a writer’s room for the project.
Selected for the BBC’s 2020 Drama Room scheme, Matt was also a member of the writersroom for Season Two of BBC ONE PSNI drama Blue Lights. Previously a finalist for the Mammoth Screen BBC NI, Matt was also shortlisted for the BBC’s Indie Pilot scheme in 2023.
Matthew has just completed the Greenlight screenwriting lab where he completed his coming of age tale A Clannish Breed under the guidance of Philip Shelley. He was also selected for the Hot House/Climate Spring programme where he developed Winded.
His radio comedy-drama, Lock In, starred Conleth Hill, broadcast in 2018. Matt’s short story Handy Number was broadcast on Radio 4 in February 2021 and performed by Derry Girls Tara Lynne O’Neill. His second Radio 4 short story She Named Us was broadcast in August 2023. He also contributed material to all 3 seasons of Soft Border Patrol.
