NICO MENSINGA

Nico is a British-Brazilian screenwriter whose film scripts have been optioned and developed by the likes of Warp Films, Revolution Films and The Bureau, as well as producer François Ivernel, former head of Pathé UK and Exec Producer of The Iron Lady and Philomena. For TV, Nico’s original treatments have been commissioned by Various Artists Limited and Baby Cow, and an original pilot of his has been optioned by Eleven.

Nico has written numerous short films that have screened internationally and been long-listed for a BAFTA. Three of his feature film scripts have been produced. Titus, starring the Emmy Award winning actor Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us) and his daughter, Emmy Award winner Jasmine Cephas Jones (Blindspotting), was nominated for two BIFAs and the Best UK Feature Award at Raindance Film Festival. It won the Prix du Public Award at Dinard Film Festival.

His feature film Daphne was directed by Golden Bear winner Peter Mackie Burns and produced by Valentina Brazzini and Tristan Goligher (45 Years) at The Bureau, and starred the Cannes Award winning actress Emily Beecham. Daphne premiered at Rotterdam Film Festival, before going on to play in competition at the likes of SXSW, Torino, Melbourne and Edinburgh, where Emily won the Best Actress Award. Emily was also nominated for Best Actress at the BIFA Awards and the London Critics Circle Film Awards. Nico won the Best Screenplay Award at Dinard Film Festival and Valletta Film Festival. Daphne was released in the UK by Altitude (Lady Macbeth, Amy).

Nico’s most recent film, The Old Man and the Land, directed by Nick Parish, starring Rory Kinnear and Emily Beecham, premiered at the Oscar and BAFTA qualifying Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, before going on to screen at the likes of Glasgow Film Festival and Chichester Film Festival. The film has been picked up for distribution by Reason8, a boutique international sales company.
