Rachel is lead writer and co-creator on the hit CBBC adaptation of Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers, now commissioned for its fifth series, and Rockie and Canadian Screen Award nominated in 2023. Rachel is also the co-creator of, and longstanding writer on, the global hit BBC1 mystery series Father Brown, now shooting its eleventh series and 120th episode, and sold to 230+ territories worldwide.
Work currently in development includes two reimagined children’s classics developed as returning series for a family audience (King Bert), an adaptation of modern classic How Green Was My Valley (PBS Masterpiece/UKTV/South Shore), and original series and adaptations with prodcos Eleventh Hour, Moonriver (dir. Simon Curtis), and Company Pictures. Rachel is also creative exec on cosy crime adaptation Arya Winters and the Tiramisu of Death by Shazia Rashid (developed with Renegade Pictures).
Rachel’s writers’ room experience includes Whitstable Pearl S1 (Acorn), Marcella S3 (ITV) and Yellow Bird psycho-thriller adaptation Sanctuary. Prior to this, Rachel co-developed and wrote the critically-acclaimed adaptation of Wilkie Collins’ classic detective novel The Moonstone for BBC1 (dir. Lisa Mulcahy).
Rachel trained in film and television producing under Tony Garnett at Royal Holloway College, and began her TV career in-house in drama development for World Productions. She started scriptwriting with the Soho Theatre Young Writers’ Group, and sold her first TV treatment aged 23, followed by stints as a storyliner, script producer and series producer. Rachel wrote her first produced TV script – of Sky One’s flagship drama Dream Team – at 25. After winning a place on John Yorke’s BBC Writers’ Academy, she went on to write extensively for BBC1’s flagship continuing dramas, including as a core writer on EastEnders and Casualty.
