Sasha Hails

Writer

Sasha writes for Film, TV, Theatre and Radio. She is currently lead writer and co creator on Malory Towers season four,  BBC/King Bert’s hit series of Enid Blyton’s classic.  Her recent play Possession was nominated for Best Writer at The Stage Debut Awards. She is under commission to adapt Lanny,  Max Porter’s award winning book by The Bureau and BBC Films, and The Only Story, by Julian Barnes for BBC Films and Little Door. Mrs Smith’s Second Coming, her original screenplay, is in development with the BFI. Other work in development includes updated, reimagined series of the classics Heidi and The Railway Children for King Bert, and original TV series with Quay Street and Company. Sasha’s play Possession is due to be produced by The Arcola Theatre. Recent work includes an episode of The Midwich Cuckoos for Sky, lead writer on The Last Tsars, Netflix/Nutopia a 6 part docudrama, and co-creator and lead writer on The Moonstone,  an adaptation of Wilkie Collins’ classic for BBC and King Bert. Also episodes of  Versailles (Canal +) and additional material on The Crown (Netflix, Leftbank). She also wrote on Wizards Versus Aliens, Russel T Davies’ TV series.  
She has been series consultant on Rux (Rumania) for HBO Europe.Sasha has written numerous episodes for BBC’s flagship shows Eastenders, Holby, Casualty, Waterloo Road and Doctors. Her episode “Unsilenced” for Casualty addressed FGM on prime time TV for the first time and was BAFTA nominated and won a BBC Production Award and a Sexual Health Award. Her episode on Euthanasia “Nice and Easy” starring Brenda Fricker was also BAFTA nominated and shortlisted for a Writers Guild Award. Her original radio play Best Interests won a MFI award
Previous to becoming a writer, Sasha was an actress. She performed in a large body of work with her award winning company Talking Tongues and her acting partner Rachel Weisz, during the 90’s and starred in the early films of Francois Ozon, including the award winning Regard la mer for which she won a best actress award.
